Amy Winehouse

This year marks the death of the 10th Anniversary of Amy Winehouse

Amy Jade Winehouse born 14. September 1983 in Southgate, London, and died on 23. July 2011 in Camden, London, was an English retro-soul singer and songwriter. Amy Winehouse died when she was only 27 this makes her one of “The 27 Club”, of 20 stars who died when they were 27 years old.

Amy was born into a Jewish family and was raised by her mother, a pharmacist. Her parents were divorced, and her Dad was a Taxi-driver. She went to BRIT School and showed there her talent for theatre and singing. Her first album “Frank” (2003), her second album (2006) which become an international success and was the best-selling album in the UK, and her third album “Lioness: Hidden Treasures” (2011). Her second album was full of heartbroken lyrics, because of her on and off relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil.

Amy Winehouse won many awards and was nominated for British Album of the Year and received the award for British Female Solo Artist. The song “Rehab” won her a second Ivor Novello Award.

She was always the title on magazines and newspapers, she was hounded daily by photographers. Amy was drug and alcohol addicted, her husband Blake, introduced her to hard drugs, he was married to her for two years (2007-2009).

I remember that I watched a reportage in Germany about Amy Winehouse, one Journalist said: " Amy Winehouse, is killing herself, with the consumption of drugs. Later I thought back to this interview and now I know sadly that he was right.

Amy Winehouse was also a generous person, especially she would help children in need. She also was named “the most charitable act” by Pop World.

I heard her in a support band on MTV in Germany, I saw her singing and I just said: “Wow, she is really good.” I told my husband about it and my husband bought the album “Back to Black” for me we were sitting in a café. I loved her and her music, still do. It is a shame that she died so early, I think she could produce more great albums and songs.

I talked to a friend in Oxford about Amy Winehouse and funny enough he told me that he never ever heard about Amy Winehouse when she was alive only when she died. I said to a friend where did you live? At the moon?

On her 10th Anniversary, we should remember her as a great artist and a generous person who loved to help others. She will stay in our memory as a brilliant artist whose soul touched this many people.
