This Autobiography was written by Alex Haley
I went to the library in Stuttgart, I was looking around and found the Autobiography of Malcolm X, I thought it must be a good book to read. I read many books about Martin Luther King, and they were interesting. I went to the librarian to borrow this book, I put it on the table and she reacted a bit strangely. I think she thought this is a radical book, in my mind I just thought to myself I am not going to be a radical, don't worry lady.
This was twenty years ago I read this book, but I can still remember everything. Malcolm X is a young man full of energy, dynamic, powerful, and intelligent. He had the talent to speak in front of an audience and told the truth about the problems in Amerika. He was very controversial and would say things that many black people would think but not say out loud. He was a great speaker and would say how things really were.
The Autobiography was so well written and so interesting I didn't want to put it down at all. At the beginning of his life, he was very poor and his family was struggling. He tells about his youth and his adulthood and he would tell how the things were and this is what makes the book so brilliant. Malcolm X went to prison because he and his friends burgled houses. In prison Malcolm X started to read a lot, one day he got a visit from his older sister and she told him all about Elijah Muhammad and how Muslims pray, etc. He starts reading about Muslims and practising their rituals like praying five times a day.
After leaving prison he is so fascinated by Elijah Muhammad and follows him and his speeches at the meetings. But soon he finds out that Elijah Muhammad had a couple of affairs with women and he could not believe it. A holly man who talks to people but behaves in disgraceful ways.
Malcolm X's older sister, was also an interesting person, in my opinion, a strong dominant lady, who really never would fit in the religion of Islam. They didn't like her there because she was a strong woman and the Islam religion doesn't tolerate women like this.
In his Autobiography, Malcolm X just told us the truth and he had the sensibility to judge people in his society. He was so disappointed with Elijah Muhammad, he thought that Islam is a good alternative to the black movement in the USA but the truth is, it is the same hierarchy system. Everybody follows like sheep without thinking, and with all religions, people sometimes stop thinking and let others think for them.
Malcolm X was always fighting for the rights of the blacks and was murdered by his own people. Compare him with Martin Luther King who always wanted peace with the white America Nation and wanted to live peacefully together, but he was killed by a white man. It is always strange and sad that whoever you fight for they kill you!
Malcolm X doesn't hate white people he just says what he thinks about the society of the American Nation. This book you have to read I really recommend it, it is a really good Autobiography and a must-read! This Autobiography is always actual because George Floyd got killed by police officers in the USA in 2020 and this shows us that you still can feel the white hand on your neck.
Do they say Malcolm X was a Black nationalist? Really? I think, he was not! It is always easy to say that. But how can a majority express themself when they are so suppressed? When you stand up for the rights and you wanted to be treated equally, why people turn on you and say you are a racist?
