Meeting with Niki Lauda

Updated: Mar 4, 2021

In 2013 we moved to England, to the lovey Buckinghamshire, it is beautiful here. My husband booked the Film “Rush” in the Cinema for me, I was so excited, my husband put the children to bed, and I drove off to the Cineworld in Milton Keynes. So, I was close to Cineworld, then I drove on the right side of the lane, I was so worried luckily no car was on the same road. I drove quickly and then the next lane, I went left and so I was in the correct lane.

I went up the stairs to the Cinema and I found my seat and set down enjoying the film “Rush.” My husband booked also a feature moving seats that shake from side-to-side, up and down, and rock backward and forwards, and which are synchronized with the film’s action. Other effects include pumping out bubbles to “bring to life buoyant atmosphere of the scene.” I think I felt a bit sick after the film because my seat shook mad when Niki Lauda and fellow drivers were driving.

I love the film “Rush”. It is well-produced, and the sound effects were brilliant. Daniel Brühl played Niki Lauda, he is one of my favourite actors from Germany. He played Niki Lauda so well, I really thought Niki Lauda himself played that role. I enjoyed the film very much, I will watch it again.

The 1976 F1 battle between Niki Lauda and James Hunt was

dramatized in the film Rush (2013) where Lauda was played by

My husband works for Formula 1 for Mercedes, so we were invited to the Christmas party in Silverstone. I went shopping to find myself a lovely dress for that occasion and bought high heels too, but I could not walk in them lol.

At the same week of the party my twin sister rang me and told me that she checked Niki Lauda in, she was working in Stuttgart Airport and he gave her a smile.

At the Christmas Party, Niki Lauda was talking on the podium, when he was finished with his talk, he came down to greet the people. I went straight up to him and told him that I watched his new film “Rush” and told him that I enjoyed watching it. This put a big smile on his face, and he asked me really, did you like it? I said: “yes, I really loved it.” Then I asked my husband if he can take a picture with Niki Lauda together and me together, so he did.

I think he must think that he saw me at Stuttgart Airport, too. But it is very funny that you as a twin see a famous person in the same week just in different countries.

About Niki Lauda: he was born on the 22. February 1949 and died in 20. May 2019

Niki Lauda said of Hunt's death, " When I heard he'd died age 45 of a heart attack I wasn't surprised, I was just sad. He also said that Hund was one of the very few he liked, a smaller number o people he respected and the only person he had envied."

1976 Nürburgring crash, a week before Niki Lauda urged his fellow drivers to boycott the race, largely because of the 23- kilometre (14mi) circuit's safety arrangements, lack of resources to property management such a huge circuit, including lack of fire marshals fire and safety equipment and safety vehicles. But a majority of the drivers voted against the boycott and the race went ahead.

Niki Lauda suffered extensive scarring from burns to his head, losing most of his right ear as well as the hair on the right side of his head, his eyebrows and his eyelid. He chose surgery to replace the eyelids and getting them properly done.
