My name is Hülya Finnigan, I am a Teaching Assistant and I have two lovely boys. They are 8 and 11 and they keep me active, I love them very much. They give me so much love and I am very happy to be their Mum. I was born and grew up in Germany and it is a lovely place. Nature over there is fantastic, I visit Germany regularly with my boys and they love the outdoor pools over there.
I speak three languages fluently (German, English, Turkish) but I can't speak Kurdish which is my mother language. This makes me really sad. But I try to learn it and if I don't understand a word I usually ask some Kurdish friends for the meanings.
I did ask my parents why they never spoke with us in Kurdish? They just said: "Yes, we did." But they never spoke it with us, my parents used the Kurdish language when they want to speak in secret to each other but never spoke with us! Kurdish was forbidden in Turkey and also in the other 3 parts of Kurdistan, but some Kurdish people managed to keep their mother language, they spoke Kurdish only at home.
This why I am very active in Human Rights, I am a member of Amnesty International in St. Alban. I try to have a voice for Kurdish people World-Wide and I share lots of things on social media. My twin sister says to me that sharing things on social media does not change anything. Maybe she is right, but I told her when you share about Kurds, I try to be a voice for Kurdish people because they can't speak out loud for their rights.
And if you ask me why I am here today? Because I started my University course this January 2021 and my lecturer said it's a good idea to open a Blog, to improve my writing skill so here I am to live out loud! I must admit my lecturer Roger Perkins made me laugh at our zoom meeting today, because of his comments. This why I turned off my camera during the meeting sometimes that he can't see me laugh.
I hope I will be using my blog in the future to write down about the world around me.
